Hey what up, I'm Merdog.

So my first exposure to cryptids was watching Lost Tapes on Animal Planet when I was like four or five. I don't remember the exact episode but I remember I couldn't sleep after it. Genuinely terrified of what might be looking through the window. That was supposed to be the end of it, you know, kid sees scary thing, gets over it. But I never really got over it. I just got more methodical about it.

So that's what Radio Merdog is. It's me talking about cryptids and the unexplained — basically all the weird stuff out there that doesn't quite fit into the boring boxes we're told to live in. I've been studying this stuff as a pretty avid cryptozoologist for over a decade now, talking with people across the country about their personal experiences with these creatures, and just generally trying to figure out what's really going on out there.

Where I land on it: I'm an honest mix. Some cases on the show I'm pretty bought in on — Bigfoot and Skunk Ape, in particular, I genuinely believe there's something out there. Other ones I'm more skeptical about, and a few I think are way more interesting as folklore than as actual creatures roaming around. I try to take the witness seriously either way. No mocking, no gotcha edits, no solving the case in three minutes for a TikTok. The eyewitness reports might not always be accurate, but when people across decades and continents are reporting the same kind of thing, that's worth taking seriously. Even if 1% of it's real, that 1% is something.

Most of my fieldwork happens in the Santa Cruz Mountains where I'm based, but the stories take me wherever they go. Going forward I want to do way more real interviews, get out into the places these things have happened, and bring you on for the ride. I'm not trying to be a documentary narrator. This is conversational. This is two people around a fire talking about what's out there.

If you've got a story, send a field report. And as always — broaden your horizons. There's a lot more to the world than what meets the eye.

And as always, this has been The Merdog. Peace.
